"out of my gourd" features hand painted, pyroengraved, carved gourds.  Each gourd is uniquely designed to accent its' features and shape.  You are guaranteed, there are no two gourds are alike.  All gourds are numbered and authenticated with the artists' signature.

Artist Carrie Bass grows the gourds from seeds.  Each type of gourd is planted in her garden and cared for tenderly through the summer as they mature.

Carrie harvests the gourds when they are at the peak of perfection.  After the harvesting, the gourds are left to dry for three to five months.  Now the fun starts.  She is inspired by the shapes of the gourd to make designs featuring southwestern and old west art.  Some of the gourds are cut and shaped to make beautiful and functional bowls.  Others are made into canteens, bird houses, and magnificent ornamental pieces.  The gourds are accented with leather, feathers, beads and conchos.  Each gourd takes a minimum of ten hours to complete depending on the complexity of the design.

Carrie has been featured at craft fairs and shows throughout the Southwest United States.  This past Labor Day weekend, she was in Prescott, AZ. for the Fair in the Park.  You can check out her work at the Farmer's Fair in Perris, CA. this year.  The gourd she is entering in the competition has over thirty hours of labor into the design alone.  The Farmer's Fair and Festival runs from October 20th through the 28th, 2001.
